Trinidad

After our three day tour of old Havana, we hired a car for the rest of our two week holiday. Driving in Cuba is an interesting experience! The roads around Havana aren’t too bad, but the main “motorway” which runs from Havana towards the South West of Cuba is not of European standards - expect potholes, cattle crossing and locals driving ox and cart along the road. So it takes a while to reach the UNESCO listed town of Trinidad close to the South Western coast. Founded in 1514 Trinidad is one of the best preserved cities in the Caribbean from the time when the sugar trade was the main industry in the region. Only a few square blocks in size, historic Trinidad is famous for its lovely, cobblestone streets, pastel coloured houses with elaborate wrought-iron grills, as well as beautiful palaces and plazas.
