For the remainder of our Cuban holiday we were heading to the North West of Cuba. It was quite a long journey via the outskirts of Havana and it was later afternoon when we reached our hotel perched on a hillside with spectacular views of the Viñales Valley. Viñales is a beautiful and lush valley in Pinar del Río province of Cuba. The area has been protected by constitution since February 1976, and was declared a national monument in October 1978. The Viñales Valley has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since November 1999, for the outstanding karst landscape and traditional agriculture as well as vernacular architecture, crafts and music. Viñales is said to be Fidel Castro's favourite place in Cuba -
